The legendary Juan dela Cruz Band from the Philippines has returned from its tour the US. On 1 July, it was featured in a major homecoming concert at the Metro Concert Bar. The house was packed. Also on the bill were other blues-oriented performers: Maria Cafra, Lolit Carbon, Noli Aurillo & others.
The Brass Monkeys, a blues and jazz jump band from Manila, will perform at the Hua Hin 2010 Jazz Festival, which runs 18-20 June at the Thai beach resort. Also performing will be Eric Marienthal and Lee Ritenhour, along with a bunch of Thai bands and a few other international groups. For the full schedule, visit the Hua Hin Jazz Festival website.
The Jakarta Blues Association has announced dates for its 2010 blues festival, now expanded to two days, 15-16 October. It has also called for contest entries from new bands that would like to perform.

SkunkJive, featuring Kelvin Ng

SkunkJive, formerly known as Smokefree & the Bandits, brightens up the blues scene in Singapore. The band features Kelvin Ng on blues harp and vocals. He has to be one of the very best harp players in all of Asia – or anywhere in the world, for that matter. Great taste, great tone. This video captures the band’s original instrumental “Wrong Place, Wrong Time.”

Kelvin will be performing at the two concerts mounted for the Asia Pacific Harmonica Festival 2010, 29 July - 2 August. He also will be serving as a judge for the diatonic competition.
